Tomb of Śrīmant Peshwa and Sati Vr̥ṁdāvana

The place Theur has gained much importance in recent times due to the Rama-Madhav i.e. the Madhavrao Peshwa and his wife Ramabai. Madhavrao Peshwa had a great devotion to Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī and whenever he got time from his administrative duties, he used to come to this place for mental and physical relaxation. In his last days while struggling with tuberculosis, he remained at this place and finally gave up his life at the feet of Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī. Ramabaisaheb along with her husband immediately committed sati (a former act or custom of a Hindu widow performed in exceptional cases to burning herself to death on the funeral pyre of her husband) at this place. Today, the location is home to her mausoleum, known as Vr̥ṁdāvana of Sati.

The palanquin is kept today by the Devasthan Trust in the place where Śrīmant Madhavrao Peshwa’s Body was kept before cremation. A beautiful monument of the Madhavrao Peshwa as well as magnificent murals, have been installed in the Peshwa Darbar.
