Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī Maharaj had four sons. His elder son Śrī Nārāyaṇa Maharaj Deo used to worship Śrī Maṁgalamūrtī, an idol given to Śrī Moraya Gosavi Maharaj. Śrī Kākā Maharaj also wanted us to worship Śrī Maṁgalamūrtī.
Once Śrī Kākā Maharaj went to offer Durva (Bermuda grass) to Śrī Maṁgalamūrtī. Śrī Nārāyaṇa Maharaj opposed him, which made Śrī Kākā Maharaj angry and he vowed that until ‘I get another Maṁgalamūrtī I will not enter Chinchwad. He went directly to Morgaon and started worshiping Śrī Mayureshwar. Seeing the devotion of Śrī Kākā Maharaj, Śrī Mayureshwar gave a vision and said I have incarnated in your lineage in the form of ŚrīMaṁgalamūrtī idol hence you should go to Śrīkṣetra Theur and do penance.
As a result, Śrī Kākā Maharaj traveled to Śrīkṣetra Theur and performed a 21-day penance by standing in the river. Even when the fish harmed his body, he performed his penance without being distracted. Finally, Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī was pleased with his devotion and gave him an idol in the form of Tāṁdalā to Śrī Kākā Maharaj. At the same time, while in Jinji Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj had a vision of Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī and he said that “I have incarnated. Make the necessary arrangements for me.”
Accordingly Śrī Kākā Maharaj was rewarded with the grant of villages of Theur, Jambe, Uruli, Hinjewadi. Śrī Kākā Maharaj came to Chinchwad with a large retinue. Śrī Nārāyaṇa Maharaj built a separate palace for him. And since then the descendants of Śrī Kākā Maharaj started going to Theur for pilgrimage in the month of Bhādrapada and Māgha with an idol of Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī received by Kākā Maharaj . The idol of Chiṁtāmaṇī in the form of Tāṁdalā is situated at Śrīkṣetra Chinchwad.
Grandson of Mahasadhu Śrī Moraya Gosavi, son of Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī Maharaj, Śrī Nārāyaṇa Maharaj and his descendants named Deo settled in Theur and worshiped Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī. Śrīmant Madhavrao Peshwa, due to his ill health, settled in Theur before his demise to worship Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī and started to rule from there. Due to Deo family’s daily worship routine of Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī, the Peshawa did not get much time to worship Śrī Chiṁtāmaṇī and therefore the Madhavrao Peshwa requested the Deo family, to settle down at Pirangut village near Pune in Maval area where Swayambhu Prati Chiṁtāmaṇī is present.
On the request of their beloved Peshwa, the Deo family settled in Pirangut from Theur. Thus, a branch of the clan of Śrī Nārāyaṇa Maharaj settled in Pirangut. Further this Deo family came to be called as “Pirangutkar Deo family”. Madhavrao Peshawa built the Hemadpanthi architectural style temple at Pirangut and also gave the revenue of 36 surrounding villages to the family for their livelihood. Since then till today the family of Pirangutkar Deo started to worship Śrī Prati (replica) Chiṁtāmaṇī at Pirangut which continues till today. But due to the affection towards Chiṁtāmaṇī of Theur, even today Pirangutkar Deo family and Śrī Gaṇapati Devasthan Pirangut celebrate Gaṇeśa Chaturthi festival with great devotion in Bhādrapada month (Pratipada to Saptami) as well as Chaturthi festival in Māgha month by residing at Theur.
